In J.R.R. Tolkien’s book The Hobbit, the wizard Gandalf explains why he has chosen a little hobbit named Bilbo to accompany the dwarfs to fight their enemy. He says, “Saruman believes it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found. I found it is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindness and love.”

Pushing back the darkness and the evil of this world doesn’t require the famous, intellectually astute, or those in places of power.

Fighting the atrocity of human trafficking throughout our world requires all who are willing to use their gifts and talents. It must be a collective effort. No one person can fight this problem alone.

It has been a such a blessing to watch our supporters use their lives to further the work of My Refuge House. Like Jonathon Alexander who is a Loan Consultant for First United Bank. Over a year ago Jonathon had a fantastic idea of raising both awareness and funds for MRH through his mortgage team with First United Bank.  Jonathan created a video to thank each of his clients while introducing them to MRH and letting them know that part of his team’s income from each loan is donated to help care for our girls.

Then there’s Brittany Frey, a stay at home mom who decided to start a new business, Truth Ink Apparel. During the first month of sales she knew she wanted a portion of her sales to go to an organization that was close to her heart and knew that My Refuge House could benefit greatly from her efforts.

These two outside-the-box thinkers remind me of this passage from I Peter 4:8-11IMG_4564

“Stay wide-awake in prayer. Most of all, love each other as if your life depended on it. Love makes up for practically anything. Be quick to give a meal to the hungry, a bed to the homeless—cheerfully. Be generous with the different things God gave you, passing them around so all get in on it: if words, let it be God’s words; if help, let it be God’s hearty help. That way, God’s bright presence will be evident in everything through Jesus, and he’ll get all the credit as the One mighty in everything—encores to the end of time. Oh, yes!”

Prayerfully consider how you can do just that by supporting the work of My Refuge House. With your help lives will be changed and the light will be brought into the darkness.

Think about your life and decide where God can use you to help MRH. This must be a collective effort by all. We need your help because there are so many children who need help.

In case you haven’t heard we’ve launched a new campaign called Fill It Up. We currently have space for 12 more girls. But we need your financial support to fill that space.  With your help our cottages will be filled with girls receiving the restoration they so desperately need.
